About the Event
The Horszowski Trio's performances are “lithe, persuasive” (The New York Times), “eloquent and enthralling” (The Boston Globe), and has been described as “the most compelling American group to come on the scene” (The New Yorker).
Joining the Horszowski Trio are the Grammy Award-winning violist, Masumi Per Rostad, described as an “electrifying, poetic, and sensitive musician” (The New York Times); and Gregg August, double bass, one of the most versatile musicians today and a member of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, American Composers Orchestra, and Orchestra of St. Luke’s.
The concert opens with two piano trios: Smetana’s Trio in G Minor, Op. 15, and Paul Chihara’s Fantasy “Red Dragonfly,” an homage to R. Schumann written in 2022. The entire second half is devoted to Schubert’s beloved Piano Quintet in A Major, Op. 114, D. 667, “The Trout,” named after his own song of the same title, which appears in the theme and variations fourth movement of the quintet.
Program:
- B. SMETANA Trio in G Minor, Opus 15
- Paul CHIHARA Fantasy "Red Dragonfly" - Homage to R. Schumann (2022)
- F. SCHUBERT Piano Quintet in A Major, Op. 114, D. 667, “The Trout”
